Stop the press

Thanks to the Silk Route's fine work in digging up www.maxmerritt.com.au I have realised that we have inadvertantly re-arranged Slipping Away. Unless, as it is a live version on the Max Tracks link, Max himself has re-arranged. My submission for the dominant has led me to include an E in the verses like so:

A

Baby I've been watching you

Bm

Watching everything you do

E

And I just can't help the feeling

E

Someone else is stealing you away

A

from me

And I believe, after listening to it just now, that Max plays

A

Baby I've been watching you

Bm

Watching everything you do

Bm

And I just can't help the feeling

Bm

Someone else is stealing you away

A

from me

No dominant to be seen! So too with the bit Crafty makes his own, i.e. Max plays (what we play in brackets)

Bm

And its breaking me in two

Bm(E)

Watching you

Bm(E)

Slipping

A

Away

All this time Max Merritt has been playing it wrong?

There is every chance I am hearing it wrong.

It sounds better with the E.
By the sounds of his performance here, a fair bit is slipping away from Max these days so the loss of a simple chord is hardly surprising.
By the time we see him at the Royal Show he'll have got it down to base concepts. Just a hammering A-chord and a faltering voice.

FYI Modern Doug: Here's my own faltering memory of the inspired verse I sketched out in the pub the other night (I'm thinking of calling it Lonesome Ladyboy Blues)

Feelin all confused like a
hot-lookin hinny,
struck down by a bad
case of sexual ennui,
Are you left-handed
or is that some kind of
palsy?
are you a man or is
that some kind of falsie?

I just spent 90 seconds at my desk trying to think of a chorus to follow but all I can think of is the one from "Demolition Girl" by The Saints.

Not only is this gold but it also fits perfectly into The Rocker by Thin Lizzy.
I will work on some music for Thrusday night (unless something strikes you between now and then) and we may have the first ever band co-write. We can talk about royalties offline.

will put my quill to parchment for some more verses and a chorus.
A pleasure to play Bernie Taupin to your Elton John.
