A-OK

Well, pretty good anyway. Close enough for rock and roll as Paddy might say. I tempted the evil beast that lurks within with Roast Chicken (with pesto under the skin which was a suggestion from Gourmet Traveller, a fine organ often read by my wife and a title which I have used as a euphimism for defecation) and vegetables. There were rumblings but they seemed to be to an even beat. There is only rock. Interestingly, the new song emailed to everyone last week met with complete silence so I can only assume it, to my surprise as I thought it okay but not great, was thought even lower than my unfaithful rendering of Inter-Species Carnality Blues. I'm not looking for gushing praise, though it is welcome, but recognition that the song exists and doesn't make you want to quit the band would be nice.

Fire in the disco...

As Paddy would say, Paddy being the new President of the Melbourne Chapter of the Electric Six fan-boy club. After my sojourn to the front to witness the terror of mother nature writ large on the unforgiving Australian outback and all that, after Doug's draining battle with the e.coli in his midst, after Paddy's solipsistic week spent wallowing in the hi-fi sounds of his new lounge-room setup and after Crafty spent the last fortnight practising the difficult intro to He's a Whore, the question the world wants answered is ... do we rock on Tuesday or not?
If we don't come back soon, who will keep the young men of Midian in DVD's and mull?

Flat Ink

Danger danger high voltage as Paddy might say. I have, since tuesday, been sick as a local-furry-squid with gastro and remain so. I fear for the band dinner. In fact, until you hear otherwise I reckon it is dead in the water until the new year. I feel certain that cooking for others whilst you have gastro can only spell trouble with a capital T, which rhymes with P which stands for Pool.

Why is Paddy so terribly poor?

Spending my Christmas money on myself, as I like to do, I bought a spiffy new power amp for my stereo. Not a whole amp, actually just two modules like the one in the photo here that the cartoon squid is standing on: one for the left channel and one for the right and I pulled the corresponding ones from my old amp and soldered and screwed the fabulous new ones in.

Our many hundreds of regular readers will remember that I like this sort of thing and dearly love my new amp. Hooray. It sounds superb with delicious crystal clarity, ear-catching separation and better-defined bass than the old amp had.

The components need up to 20 hours of “burn-in” before the amp is at its best so, dammit, I just had to listen to Beatles, At The Drive-In, Beethoven, Roger Glover, Mars Volta, AC/DC, Death From Above, Stravinsky and many other albums over the weekend all at outrageous volume.

Colour me cheerful.

Hi Dan,

I Hope you’re well? I’m currently looking after Fiona’s media whilst she’s travelling the world on her honeymoon.
Wondering if you’d be interested in an interview with Barry Manilow, to have a chat about his new album The Greatest Songs of the Sixties that was released on Saturday?
We’re expecting to get some time early to mid next week. Please let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll let head office know and get back to you with a date and time.
Thanks matey,
Em.
